You may be closing the apartment for a long period of time - use this list to give you peace of mind that it's all sorted:
1. Fridge off – turn the knob inside the fridge until it goes off, defrost, empty and leave the door open
2. Gas off – turn the knob on top of the cylinder (in the kitchen cupboard) towards the “C” (Chiuso) – make it tight and check by trying a hob ring
3. Water boiler off – use the top switch just outside the bathroom
4. Shutters shut – small, slightly stiff locking mech at bottom of one shutter needs to be pulled up and home to lock both shutters on each window.
5. Windows shut – use locking mech to secure against the window sill (winter storms may need to be withstood - some windows lock top and bottom, some just bottom only)
6. Close all the room doors – some can be locked as well, this keeps them shut on windy days
7. Electricity – by the apartment front door (inside) are the circuit breakers, turn down to switch off all electricity
8. Pull the door shut and turn the key 360° to lock it fully
9. Water off – go outside and find the stop lever - pull it down
